Josh's body

For how much longer will it exist? Today we found out the problem that has been plagueing recently. Allegidly, Josh has giardia, which should explain all of his ailments (vomitting, lack of sleep, etc.). Because of this prognosis, it seems we will be spending one additional day (tomorrow, 6/21) to make sure we return Josh to his optimal health before we begin hiking again. Since we know we'll be here ahead of time though we were able to plan out an activity tomorrow. We will be going white water rafting with our own private guide tomorrow morning. We are going to bring lunch, and beer, and should have a great time on the level 4 rapids. Tomorrow afternoon Jake promised me we could just sit around and relax (he doesn't like doing nothing), so we should have a very enjoyable day tomorrow. Thats what Josh's illness means for the three of us, but for all you reading this it means we are within range of contact (both internet and phone) for at least one more day. Feel free to ask questions and expect quick responses for the next day (lets just say, im at your disposal).

*For those of you more curious on what giardia is, enjoy...

  1. Oh poor Josh...any chicken soup on the trail? Hope he can rest and get his strength back. Up late packing up Eli. He leaves for Uganda tomorrow after we make dad breakfast for father's day and meet the family to visit Grandpa Al (its been one year tomorrow since he died). He would have loved this trip you are on. We'll be sure to tell him about it. Take care...love you.

  2. Giardia is a big problem in CA where the streams seem so clear and pristine. Can't drink or wash food in any of it. Josh - feel better. I feel for you.
Today the whole family went to visit grandpa's grave. Bittersweet - we miss him very much, especially grandma, but we recalled how much he loved you kids and how proud he would be of your adventuring spirit. That includes both your long hike and Eli's trip to Uganda.
My very favorite thing in the world is hiking in the hills and forests of wild or semi-wild places where you cannot see or hear anything near civilization. Living in NJ you cannot begin to conceptualize the beauty, wonder and vastness of nature. She is amazing. How are you doing at night? Has it rained a lot? Do you need/want anything that I can send to you? ENJOY! I love you.

  4. Hey guys! That stinks about the Giardia. i hope Josh is feeling a lot better after the zero days. We're probably going to take a nero right after we stay in Damascus with my Girlfriend's friends for a night. We stayed at the Cherry shelter, overmountain (Roan was kind of a bear), and Mountaineer (which was really nice and stocked with wood). We won't have our maps till Damascus, so I'm not entirely sure where we'll be in Virginia, but I hope our paths cross in Southern or at least middle Virginia. Good luck guys.

PS: If your on those balds after Roan in a lightning storm, don't head up the mountain like us. Oh yeah, stay away from the barbed wire too, we got a nice shock from one of the bolts a couple days ago when we were wading through mud.
